Breeze Airways will launch nonstop service between Tampa International Airport and Juan Santamaría International Airport in San José on October 3, restoring a direct link that has been absent for more than 25 years. The route will operate twice a week, on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and Breeze will be the only airline serving it nonstop.
According to the schedule announced this week, flights will depart Tampa at 6:40 a.m. and arrive in Costa Rica at 7:55 a.m. The return leg will leave San José at 8:55 a.m. and land in Tampa at 2:05 p.m. Introductory one-way fares start at $129, with bookings already open through Breeze Airways.
The new service is a milestone for the airline, marking Breeze’s first route to Central America. San José becomes the carrier’s fifth international destination as it continues building out a growing network beyond the United States.
For Tampa, the route brings back a nonstop connection to Costa Rica for the first time in more than two decades. Airport officials said the service is expected to strengthen links for leisure travel, business trips and family visits between the Tampa Bay area and Costa Rica. Tampa International also noted that Costa Rica is Florida’s ninth-largest trade partner and that thousands of Costa Rican-born residents live in the Tampa Bay region.
The San José flights were announced alongside Breeze’s new nonstop service from Tampa to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic, which is scheduled to begin July 2 with twice-weekly service on Thursdays and Sundays. Together, the additions broaden travel options from Florida to key destinations in the Caribbean and Central America.
For Costa Rica, the new route adds another direct connection to Florida and gives travelers from the Tampa Bay area a simpler way to reach the capital region and continue on to destinations across our country. With demand for Costa Rica travel remaining strong, the new Breeze service gives passengers another low-cost option entering the market later this year.
