Drivers heading back to the capital from the Pacific coast will see all lanes on Route 27 flow only toward San José this Sunday, February 22. The Ministry of Public Works and Transport put the measure in place because public schools and colleges resume classes Monday, February 23. Officials expect heavy volumes of vehicles from beach areas.
The change affects the stretch between Pozón and the Ciudad Colón toll plaza. All available lanes run toward the capital from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. The opposite direction, toward Caldera, stays closed from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. on that same section. The setup prevents head-on traffic and keeps vehicles moving safely.
Authorities set the maximum speed at 60 kilometers per hour during the operation. Traffic police will patrol the highway to enforce the limit and direct flow. The plan follows the same pattern used on previous return Sundays. It covers about 47 kilometers and helps motorists from Puntarenas, Guanacaste and those who connect via the Costanera Sur.
Motorists who plan to travel that afternoon should check conditions before they leave and allow extra time. Normal two-way traffic resumes after 7 p.m.
